Technical Director James Allison and his engineering team focused heavily on resolving the suspension and ground-effect handling issues that plagued its predecessor, the W15, ultimately delivering a much more responsive machine for the team's campaign.
Technical Specifications and Season Performance
Mercedes W16 technical layout features a carbon fiber composite monocoque chassis equipped with pushrod-activated suspension springs and dampers both front and rear. Weighing in at 800 kilograms with the driver included, the car balances aerodynamic downforce with power delivered through an 8-speed semi-automatic sequential gearbox.
"Every detail of the aerodynamic package was refined to ensure optimal performance across diverse track layouts, from high-speed circuits to tight street tracks," performance engineers noted during testing phases.
Kimi Antonelli made his debut alongside veteran teammate George Russell, navigating a demanding calendar that stretched from the opening round in Australia to the season finale in Abu Dhabi.
